On the eve of September 24, the “Night of Literature 2025” was held in the courtyard of the Center "Jules Pascin". Vidin was one of the eleven Bulgarian locations that joined the initiative. The organizers were the Municipality of Vidin and the “Mihalaki Georgiev” Regional Library.
The event was opened by Desislava Ivanova, director of the Regional Library "Mihalaki Georgiev".
The program included excerpts from three contemporary European works:
Anya Mugerli – “The Bee Family” (Slovenia), translated by Lyudmil Dimitrov | Publisher: Kolibri
Peter Kantor – “Learning to Live” (Hungary), translated by Martin Hristov | Publisher: Ergo
Tove Jansson – “The Little Trolls and the Great Flood” (Finland), translated by Anelia Petrunova | Publisher: Damyan Yakov
The texts came to life through the readings of Valentina Valcheva - writer and librarian at the Regional Library "Mihalaki Georgiev", Madlen Asparuhova - writer and Public Relations expert at the Regional Library "Mihalaki Georgiev", Kiril Kirilov - director and actor at the Drama Theater "Vladimir Trendafilov".
"Night of Literature" has been held for more than ten years in various European cities and is among the established formats for popularizing contemporary European literature. This year, 11 settlements in Bulgaria took part: Sofia, Varna, Vidin, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Ruse and the village of Chavdar.
The event turned the evening into a celebration of literature and introduced the audience to the wealth of contemporary European themes, languages, and styles.
